For the picture book
I made many sketches. First to develop the physical shape of the main
and secondary figures and then for their human gestures. Thoughts on the
relation between image and text have determined the composition of
the images. It was an artistic process that began in 2014. The image
of the owl shown here is the attempt to give an animal the
appropriate facial expression.
An owl is a symbolic figure in fairy
tales that stands for wisdom and eternity. In literature humans have
awe for this animal, because of its knowledge and wisdom of life,
which can contradict the amused man.
Therefore the owl,
named Olli, in “Quick Quinn” is the sensible and grown-up friend of Dori and Squirrel. He is the one who also represents the
male figure, sometimes bored with the madness of the girls.
